36TH NATIONAL MILO MARATHON

On July 1, the country’s most prestigious nationwide running event will kick-off in Baguio. A total of 200,000 runners are expected to pound their feet on the pavement in 18 races across 17 cities in the country.

This year, the theme of the MILO Marathon is “Iba’t-ibang hinahabol, iisang takbukan”, in celebration of the various aspirations of runners who participate in the race. Some run for prize and honor, while others run for fun and fitness, but whatever the reason for running, the 36th National MILO Marathon runners will also be running for a good cause.

FOR A CAUSE

“Through the MILO Marathon, we are able to provide shoes to underprivileged children to help them become champions in sports and in life,” said Andrew Neri, MILO Sports Executive. “The noblest motivation for running the MILO Marathon will be to continue the work of providing running shoes to public schoolchildren. Now on its 3rd year, the MILO ‘Help give shoes’ advocacy encourages runners of all ages to register in the 36th National MILO Marathon and make the pledge to give shoes to deserving kids nationwide.”

To date, MILO has given shoes to 14,200 children all over the Philippines through the advocacy. This year, another 10,000 children will be given a pair of running shoes in the hopes of helping them reach for their dreams. For every runner that joins, ten pesos from the registration fee will go to the advocacy. MILO then matches the proceeds, and in cooperation with the Department of Education, selects 100 students that show promise in academics and sports in 100 public schools all over the country as beneficiaries.

SUPPORTING OUR OWN

To support homegrown talent, while also giving a venue for foreign runners to compete, the 36th National MILO Marathon will now have Open and Local categories for the 42.195-K and 21-K races in the Manila Eliminations and National Finals. Both foreign and local participants can compete and win in the Open category. However, in case a local participant finishes in the top 3 of the Open category, the runner waives the right to win the prize in the Local category. Foreigners are eligible to win only in the Manila races. To qualify for the National Finals, foreign runners must provide proof of finish in any AIMS accredited races dating back at least one (1) year before race day or they may qualify in the 42.195-K Manila elimination race. They must have a finish time within the specified age-bracket and time identified for 21-K and 42.195-K races.

Last year’s 42K marathon champions, Mary Grace delos Santos and James Tallam, will be defending their titles and aiming to break their best time of 2:53:07 for the female division and 2:28:02 for the males.

NEW VENUES

New venues will also see action, namely Lipa, Angeles and Baguio, giving more runners a chance to take part in the MILO marathon qualifiers.The National MILO marathon starts on July 1 in Baguio, followed by Dagupan (July 8), Tarlac (July 15), Angeles (July 22), Naga (August 19), San Pablo (September 2), Lipa (September 16), Puerto Princesa (September 23), Tagbilaran (September 30), Cebu (October 7), Bacolod (October 4), Ilo-Iloilo (October 28), General Santos (November 4), Davao (November 11), Butuan (November 18) and Cagayan de Oro (November 25).

SM MOA will again be the venue for the Manila eliminations slated on July 29, and the National finals on December 9.

Fox International Channels (FIC) provides a bit of each TV channel’s flavor and a whole lot of fun in the FIC Fun Run on March 25, 2012 at the Bonifacio Global City. Participants can play dress up, *hobnob with celebrities and support a worthy cause.

The event gives runners the opportunity to choose and participate in any of the four races organized by FIC featuring different lifestyle themes representing its four key channels. It will have four race categories that include an advocacy marathon run aimed at raising funds to support the various projects of partner non-government organizations (NGOs).

Participants may register in the 500m Fox Costume Run, 3K Star Movies Blockbuster Run, 5K Star World Lifestyle and the 10K Nat Geo Run For a Cause. Those who are interested to join may register either via online or phone, at RunRio stores (BHS and Katipunan) and event partner stores. Each race (except for the 500m) category has its own singlet design.

Come dressed in your favorite character and run alongside fellow enthusiasts and sponsor mascots in the 500m Fox Costume Run. Fifty runners in costume will compete and make a dash for the finish line. Limited edition Fox DVD will be raffled off after the race.

Star Movies rolls out the red carpet for movie aficionados in the 3K Star Movies Lifestyle Run where writers, film producers and movie directors are expected to show their support to the event. For a bit of a movie trivia and a tad of inspiration, popular quotes from movie characters will be setup along the course. A home entertainment system is up for grabs in the raffle draw.

Run with *panache – this is the battle cry of lovers of fashion and fitness when they run the 5K Star World Lifestyle Run featuring a red carpet along the route to mimic the paparazzi scene. If you’re feeling lucky, you might just bring home gift certificates for a shopping spree at the end of the race.

Be a CELEBRITY, a FASHIONISTA or a MODEL

Have fun while reaching out to others in the 10K National Geographic Run for a Cause. The race is in partnership with 10 select non-government organizations and seeks to raise awareness for their respective advocacies. Among the partner NGOs are Physicians for Peace, ICANSERVE Foundation, Virlanie, Greenpeace, Philippine Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, World Vision and Gawad Kalinga. The first 500 registrants will compete in the name of their advocacy.

SHUTTLE SERVICE

• RunRio/Unilab Active Health will be providing a SHUTTLE SERVICE for 21km participants. The service will have the SM Mall of Asia as its pick-up point and will bring the 21km runners to the 21km starting line at the BGC.
• Why SM Mall of Asia as pick-up point? The race owners and organizers considers those 21km runners who may have other members of the family who will be running a shorter distance so SM Mall of Asia is a more feasible originating point. Besides, there are more available parking areas there than in BGC.
• More details and mechanics for the Shuttle Service will be posted once available.

BAGGAGE AREA/SERVICE
Baggage Services will be available at the BGC race area in the form of ROVING BAGGAGE SERVICE VANS which will be on standby prior to race start and will move to the SM Mall of Asia to bring these checked-in baggages to the designated Baggage Claim Areas.
