36TH NATIONAL MILO MARATHON

On July 1, the country’s most prestigious nationwide running event will kick-off in Baguio. A total of 200,000 runners are expected to pound their feet on the pavement in 18 races across 17 cities in the country.

This year, the theme of the MILO Marathon is “Iba’t-ibang hinahabol, iisang takbukan”, in celebration of the various aspirations of runners who participate in the race. Some run for prize and honor, while others run for fun and fitness, but whatever the reason for running, the 36th National MILO Marathon runners will also be running for a good cause.

FOR A CAUSE
“Through the MILO Marathon, we are able to provide shoes to underprivileged children to help them become champions in sports and in life,” said Andrew Neri, MILO Sports Executive. “The noblest motivation for running the MILO Marathon will be to continue the work of providing running shoes to public schoolchildren. Now on its 3rd year, the MILO ‘Help give shoes’ advocacy encourages runners of all ages to register in the 36th National MILO Marathon and make the pledge to give shoes to deserving kids nationwide.”

To date, MILO has given shoes to 14,200 children all over the Philippines through the advocacy. This year, another 10,000 children will be given a pair of running shoes in the hopes of helping them reach for their dreams. For every runner that joins, ten pesos from the registration fee will go to the advocacy. MILO then matches the proceeds, and in cooperation with the Department of Education, selects 100 students that show promise in academics and sports in 100 public schools all over the country as beneficiaries.

SUPPORTING OUR OWN
To support homegrown talent, while also giving a venue for foreign runners to compete, the 36th National MILO Marathon will now have Open and Local categories for the 42.195-K and 21-K races in the Manila Eliminations and National Finals. Both foreign and local participants can compete and win in the Open category. However, in case a local participant finishes in the top 3 of the Open category, the runner waives the right to win the prize in the Local category. Foreigners are eligible to win only in the Manila races. To qualify for the National Finals, foreign runners must provide proof of finish in any AIMS accredited races dating back at least one (1) year before race day or they may qualify in the 42.195-K Manila elimination race. They must have a finish time within the specified age-bracket and time identified for 21-K and 42.195-K races.

Last year’s 42K marathon champions, Mary Grace delos Santos and James Tallam, will be defending their titles and aiming to break their best time of 2:53:07 for the female division and 2:28:02 for the males.

NEW VENUES
New venues will also see action, namely Lipa, Angeles and Baguio, giving more runners a chance to take part in the MILO marathon qualifiers. The National MILO marathon starts on July 1 in Baguio, followed by Dagupan (July 8), Tarlac (July 15), Angeles (July 22), Naga (August 19), San Pablo (September 2), Lipa (September 16), Puerto Princesa (September 23), Tagbilaran (September 30), Cebu (October 7), Bacolod (October 4), Ilo-Iloilo (October 28), General Santos (November 4), Davao (November 11), Butuan (November 18) and Cagayan de Oro (November 25).

Hanggang Sa Muli

Mula ng sumali sa mga patakbo
Ikaw na ang madalas na kasa-kasama ko

CONDURA RUN 2009 (1st 21K)

Ilang giyera na ang ating nilabanan
At ni minsan di mo ako iniwan

Nagalusan, napunit, nasugatan
Hinintay maghilom para muling makasama sa bugbugan

MILO MARATHON 2009 (1st 42K)

Always AIM HIGH

As I am too anxious about this Sunday's (07.05.09) MILO Marathon.

I laid out a personal plan on how to conquer my first full marathon.

My plan is to divide the 42.195Km by 5's and finish each 5Kms with a target pace.

If I would be gunning for the 4 hours qualifying race, I hope to do the following:

For seasoned runners, the pace above might seem a bit slow. But since I'm a newbie runner who's planning to venture into the unknown. That's fast.

But, If I would be gunning for the 5 hours elimination, I need to do the following:

Lucky number 7's!!!

Of course the priority is to always AIM HIGH.

And the target will not be achieved alone, as support groups from Takbo.Ph will be on hand that day.

21K runners Timmy, David V, BongZ, Ellen will pace 42K runners on the last 10Km.

Kenkoy Runner Timmy has pledged to offer his life and limb to pace me during the most difficult part of the race. *ang drama ko*

David V will be pacing me as well... as per our FB conversation. *naks*

So, tamang-tama... kayang-kaya nyo ako buhatin nyan. =)

To all 3K, 5K, 10K, 21K, 42K runners this 33rd MILO Marathon...

God bless & good luck to us all!!! =)

My Thoughts of Races Back Then

It's official... I'll be having two firsts this coming Sunday, July 5, 2009. It will be my first full marathon (42.195kms) and my first MILO run.

As I was told that the route will be the same as last years route, looking at the map somehow brought back childhood memories.

You see, I was born and raised in Baclaran, Paranaque City. In a street named A.Guarra.

A.Guarra, also called Hangganan as it serves as the borderline to Pasay and Paranaque. That is the street where the Max's Baclaran is, and it's very near to The Redemptorist Chruch. Just in case your having problems trying to think, "where the heck is that place???".

Every Sunday, during the late 70's and early 80's when running had its first boom. I always see people running the stretch of Roxas Blvd (I call it Dewey Blvd back then).

But what got stuck in my mind was the race where I saw a lot of MILO banners, flags, water cups...

Back then, I thought that every race was a MILO race.

Back then, I thought that Botak only makes the singlets.

Back then, I thought runners get invites or paid just to run. Perhaps some do get invited and get paid just to run. I'm not still sure though.

Back then, I mock those runners.

Back then, deep inside... I want to join them...

Back then, when I was still in elementary... just for the heck of it... I walked from Baclaran to Luneta and back with my friends.

But this Sunday...

There will be a lot of MILO banners, flags, water cups...

Some other kid will be watching us running the stretch of Roxas Blvd.

Some other kid will think that every race is a MILO race.

Some other kid will think that we runners get invited / paid just to run.

Some other kid will mock us runners.

Some other kid... deep inside him would want to join us.
