Reklamador-to-door

"Pare, hassle yung pagkuha ng race-kit pare dun sa ang hirap puntahan na location pare... yun driver ko pare pinapunta ko pare, tapos di binigay race-kit ko pare, kailangan daw ng authorization letter pare, bolshoi pare...
tapos online ito pare eh.. dapat may nag-deliver na lang pare...
tapos di sinunod yun 10AM pare... ginawang 12PM pare... bad trip pare. I did not take my vitamins pa naman pare. And my yaya, she got mad pare... nabastos dun sa claiming area pare... maygaaadddd..."

Are you drugs???

(eto nakalagay sa official website ---> *For those who are unable to personally collect their Race Entry Pack, please fill out and print the letter of authorization. Your representative must show this form along with a copy of your Confirmation Slip). Mahirap intindihin? Ayaw mo maniwala?
  7. IF!

Or wala lang talagang kaibigan, period.

"Eh hindi pare eh...."

Humihithit pa din!

11.20.11 - Nathan Ridge Run

A breathtaking view of nature overlooking the lush greeneries of Tagaytay, an uphill road course through rolling hills, and never-before-opened running areas set the Nathan Ridge Run apart from your common fun run.
Slated for November 20th at the Tagaytay Highlands, the race is organized by renowned multi-sport accessory brand Nathan Performance Gear (Nathan), who will challenge Filipino runners in a unique test of athleticism, endurance and environmental advocacy.

Nathan will provide participants access to previously off-limits tracks, resulting in a fresh, challenging and steep uphill road course meant to push the limits of each runner. While in the venue, runners can also take advantage of several exclusive perks, including access to some of Highlands’ amenities and discounts.

The Nathan Ridge Run features three race divisions for the beginner to the elite with its 5K, 10K and 21K road distances. Runners are set to get their hearts racing for health and for nature. Beginners can hone their craft and endurance, while veteran athletes can improve their level of game.

Nathan Quickdraw Plus
In the spirit of greener practices, the use of environmentally harmful plastic cups will be ditched in favor of free Nathan handheld sports bottles included in the race kit or the racers’ own hydration gear. Runners can use innovative bottles such as the Nathan Quickdraw Plus, which provides them easy access to hydration while on-the-go.

Nathan Sprint
Runners can park, refill, hydrate and go for gold. Simple and efficient, the Quickdraw Plus is best for keeping dehydration at bay; no need to wait until the next check point to replenish, and no need to use harmful disposables.

Instead of the typical water stations you see in most city races, where plastic cups are lined up for the taking and disposed of as soon as runners are sufficiently hydrated, Nathan will be setting up conveniently placed refilling stations in different points of the road.

To Register, please visit R.O.X, Toby's, Runnr, Secondwind

Race fees and inclusions:
5K - P850 (singlet, Nathan Sprint handheld, post-race meal)
10K & 21K - P1,050 (singlet, Nathan Quickdraw Plus handheld, post-race meal)

Transportation hassle? Just add P350 for a bus seat reservation

Race starts at 5:30AM

Condura 2011...Tough act to follow?

Less than a month to go before I position myself to the starting line of Condura Skyway Marathon 2011 at the BGC or Bonifacio Global City (The Fort). And I believe that this race will be a tough act to follow.

They've already set the bar literally high when they first included the SkyWay as part of the route during Condura 2009.

Take a peak on their Top 12 Reasons to Join as they upped it a notch higher once again this year.

And as if the info's on their website is not enough. They even emailed participants with links/instructions on how to use the D-tags.

If I may add, do not fold the D-tags as this will break the circuit making it unreadable. How do I know? Just trust me on this... Unless you don't mind not seeing your name on the finishers list.

Information overload? I'm not complaining.

*thanks to Julie aka The Hotlegs Runner for the free race kit!

Celebrity Run?

I can't rant about this race as I got my 10K race bib for free. So, I'll just write here what I overheard from other runners during the race.

21K runner 1: "What time ba ang start?"
21K runner 2: "Gun start is 5:00AM. But knowing the race director, it's going to start late."
R: "ehem..."

lady runner: "WORST RACE EVER!!!"

10K runner 2: "marshalls at the bottom of McKinley are just making kwento with themselves, you know!!!"
R: "errrrr..."

R: "I got a new PB for 10K. according to my Garmin, I finished in 54:44 for a 9.71Km route. Short, I know. But even if it was an exact 10K distance, I'd still get a new PB."

21K virgin runner: "walang certificate?"
R: "wala eh... meron ata birth certificate."

Running Sick?

It seems like it's the season for flu again. I'm still recuperating from one. I'll miss running the SIM 42K because of it.

No, I'm not making up an excuse. I'm just listening to my body... and my wife...

Saturday, October 17
I was already feeling that I might have a cold. Being a hard-head, I told myself. "Kung ano man sakit ka, tanggal ka pag tinakbo kita bukas". As that is what I usually do.

I slept early... around 7pm, only to be awaken at 9pm by voices of Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant in Notting Hill. After that, lutang na ako. I wasn't able to sleep straight. And it didn't help that I had an LSS of "When you say nothing at all"...

Sunday, October 18 @ 2AM
As I have prepared all the things I need the day before. I just took a quick shower, dressed up then headed to our meeting place.

I met Gab in Paranaque, then we fetched Cindy from her apartment in Makati. And before 4am we were already waiting for our gun start in front of QC City Hall.

I positioned myself with the 2:45 pacers Neil & Carina. As I only intend to finish the race and if an improved PR comes then good.

When the race started, I felt strong that I was able to surge ahead from the 2:45 pacers. I was running on my comfortable pace.

Up until the turn-around point of the 21k runners. My energy suddenly went down. It didn't help that my ITB showed up. So I walked-jogged-ran-walk the whole stretch of Commonwealth going back to the QC Circle.

Reaching the QC Circle, I thought that I was near the finish line. Only to be reminded that there's the stretch of North Edsa to conquer too.

After finishing the race, I was already hobbling. The pain from the ITB is far more greater than the pain from my throat.

When I reached home, my wife was already preparing lunch. Strange, but I wasn't really hungry. I knew I need to eat something. I just felt weak.

Then my wife told me, "bakit parang ayaw mo ng pagkain mo? umiiling ka pa?".

Actually I liked the food, and I wasn't shaking my head. She just saw me wincing because my throat hurts whenever I swallow.

Then my wife told me, "subukan mo pa tumakbo sa isang linggo ha?"

I told her... "I will not run next sunday"...

Then I told myself... "Saturday naman yun SIM eh.."

Wehehehehehe.... Naahhh... won't happen. I'll skip the SIM too. =(

My next race will be the PIM. Hopefully run the 42K. If not, then I'll just join the relay for Team Logan.

Will I ever try to run sick again? Probably... If the pain is from the neck up, kaya pa siguro. But if the pain is from the neck down... that's a different story.

ITBS vs Me

ITBS (Iliotibial Band Syndrome) has been plaguing me for weeks. But looking back, I think it started when I joined my first LSD with Takbo.Ph last March 2009. Although I felt the ITBS pain after the run, I was more concerned then with my shin splints. Maybe its because I don't know what ITBS was back then, I just ignored it.

But after hearing ITBS from fellow runners , , and . And having searched the Net for what it was. I suddenly had this understanding of what not to do to avoid ITBS.

Then came our Km0 to Km56 LSD last August 2, 2009. Now for me, the consequence of doing an LSD is that it will give you more pain than running an official race or even doing a bandit. Why so? Because in an LSD, your running space is limited to the sides of the road which is most of the time uneven.

What I didn't expect that night was the symptoms of ITBS around KM30. I tried to walk/jog it off upto the next pit stop at WalterMart Dasmarinas, Cavite. But when we started running again, the pain was so unbearable I have to tap-out around KM33-KM34.

ITBS - 1, RodRunn3r - 0

After that LSD, I was already thinking of downgrading my KROUR from 15K to 5K. You know, just to not aggravate the injury. But then again, I already promised to pace some Takbo.Ph peeps specifically , , & . And since it's chikka pace and 's 15K target is 2hrs30mins, bahala na si Lord.

KROUR raceday... I was at the race site around 5:30pm. No, it's not the excitement. It just so happens that I have work that day and the office closed at around 4:30pm. Since I have my running gear with me, I just decided to go to the race site early to mingle with my friends and to have my gait analyzed at as well.

5mins before the 15K gunstart. , and was with me at the starting pen. But soon after the gunstart was fired, was the only one I was pacing. As soon as we made our first turn, I checked out on . then told me that was pacing her and she said she will be alright.

And so I concentrated on being 's pacer, for this was her first 15K. was also pacing with me upto Bayani Road near Heritage park. Somewhere along the way, suddenly upped his pace. I don't know why... but it seems like he saw . Ehurm...

Once inside the Heritage Park Cemetery, there was this eerie kind of feeling as almost all suddenly went silent. And what a good place and timing for my ITBS symptoms to re-appear.

And so there I was, running on the most flat surface area of the route. Trying to avoid the banks and gutters. It was ME against the ITBS once again. And I'm not going to let it stop me from finishing this race.

I tried everything to keep my mind off from the pain. From playing with my bracelet, to pushing , to saying "Hi" to every I know, to dousing myself with , everything...

Nearing the last 1K was already telling me that she can't run anymore. Adik?!? Konti na lang eh, ngayon pa nag-inarte??? And so I pushed her some more. From targeting , to targeting the last station, to targeting the 3 intersections, to the last corner, to the last corner, to the finish line...

As we turned towards the finish line, I saw the timer at 2 hrs 00 mins 42 secs. So I pushed even more... I told her, "Wag na natin paabutin ng 2:01 yun timer". And with all what was left on 's strength, she raced with me towards the finish line. And we crossed it under 2:01...

After making sure that was okay. I ran back to check on . And was able to join/pace her together with , , , , , at the last hydration station (Essensa).

Approximately 500M to the finish line, I chanced upon a runner hobbling near the sidewalk. I slowed down a bit and checked to see if she was okay. I never got the chance to introduce myself to her... baka sabihin gumagamit ako ng pick-up line... Instead, I tried talking to her about the race, about looking for an even surface to run on, about the stupid who keeps on at our back. When made a sign at the last turn, I ran towards to join/pace her with the group upto the finish.

We formed a shape nearing the finish line and let cross the line on her own because it was her FINISH...
