UNHAPPY TRIAD

FROM WIKIPEDIA

An unhappy triad (or terrible triad, "horrible triangle", O'Donoghue's triad[1] or a "blown knee") is an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament, and the meniscus.

Yes, that is my current injury. And no, I didn't get it from running. I got it from playing basketball. Playing basketball for less than 10 minutes.

Last May 2, 2012, I was watching this basketball game with my two sons. Take note, that I was only watching the game.

Then came the half-time break. One of the players (Mang Boy) saw me outside of the court. And this what transpired:

Mang Boy : Uy Rod! Gusto mo maglaro? (Hey Rod! You want to play?)
Me : Naka-line up ba ako? (Am I in the line-up?)
Mang Boy : Taga dito ka naman. Pwede yan. (You're from here. It's okay.)
Me : Wala ako uniform. (I don't have a uniform.)
Mang Boy : Meron sa akin extra. Magsapatos ka na. (I have an extra. Put on your shoes.)

Ang hirap pala mag-translate...

Anyways... and so I got my shoes. And played basketball.

I was running up-and-down the court for a good 3 minutes, when I felt a discomfort on my right knee. But I just shrugged it off.

It was nearing the end of the 3rd quarter and I have the ball. And when I heard the timer go from 5...4... 3...

I took the shot at the 3-point line...

And then I heard my knee popped!

Down I came to the floor. Pain on my right knee was unbearable, but I did not scream. I did not scream because I know my kids are watching and I don't want them to worry.

opkors... hindi ako yan. naki-uso lang daw ako kay D Rose. x_X

I just sat on the court for 2 minutes before the other players helped me stand up.

I immediately iced the knee and heard my knee snapped back into place.

After two days, I had my knee x-rayed. Good thing there was no bone fracture.

But when I had the MRI. That is where the doctor saw the extent of my injury.

MRI Result

So goodbye running and basketball... for now.

Do I miss running? Well, yes. But surprisingly not that much.

Do I regret playing that basketball game? No. If the injury didn't happen on that game, I think eventually it will still happen.

Currently, I'm on my second week of rehab. In less than a month, my knee will be up for surgery/operation.

Rehab at San Juan De Dios Hospital

But right now, I feel much better. I think the rehab worked. Mahusay mga PT and Ortho ko. =)
