LSD at Century Tuna Superbods Run

I was not able to sleep well the night before the Century Tuna Superbods Run.

I picked-up my daughter from a school concert which was supposed to end by 10pm. But instead it ended @ 11pm. No worries then, as I have no plan to improve my 21K pr on this event. The plan was to do an LSD and include it as part of my BDM 102 training.

And so I set my phone's alarm to 3:00AM because I don't want to be late for this race. And guess what, I woke up even before the alarm went off. I chicken-slept (tulog-manok... tama ba?).

My veggies... I'm not yet fully charged, not even half charged.

So I went to my usual business on a race day... drank two glasses of cold water... ate a peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwich... took a bath... dressed... fixed my race kit... and I'm off.

I was at the site before 4am. Enough time to chit chat with friends and even insert a warm-up. Yup... insert a warm-up. You see, I don't really warm-up before a race. I stretch a bit though. Pwede na ba yun?

The race was supposed to start @ 5:20AM, but for some unknown reason it started 10 minutes early.

As I was positioned near the faster runners, I tried my best to keep pace with them. I averaged 5:10mpk on my 1st 2Km and when I saw that I was going too fast, I slowed down a bit.

I tried to maintain a 5:30mpk and hydrate at every 2nd water station.

And when I felt I was running at my comfortable pace, I totally ignored my gps watch and just went with the flow.

But when I reached Km 15 after exiting Heritage Memorial Park, I took a glimpse at my watch.

I've run 15Kms for 01hr26mins... so I thought; it's possible to have a new PB and even a sub 2.

I paced with Doc Pinky up to Km 17. Slowed down when I saw my HR shooting up to 90%. But when I reached KM19 and saw my time @ 01hr52mins, I said “Goodbye Sub-2”.

Good thing Ace & Pojie was there to give a push. A new 21K best is still possible.

But with less than 1K more to go to finish line, my hands suddenly felt numb. And when I checked my HR, it was already at 95%. So I told Ace & Pojie to go ahead and I’ll just walk to the finish line.

When I turned left going to the finish line, I saw Sir Jovie egging me on and the official time. 02hrs03mins!!! And so I made a mad dash towards the finish. Completely ignoring my HR which shot up to 104% when I finished. But it was all good!!! It was a great feeling to know that I have improved. I got a new 21K best (02:03:55) and a medal. Woot!

LSD? Taper????

About the Race:

The race was huge and the atmosphere was festive. But the distribution of the medals, loot bags, etc needs more improvement. Falling in line to get the freebies after a long run was not a good sight.

But for me, the race was a success with a few minor hiccups.

Conquering KM0-KM56... at last...

Sunday, December 6, 2009 @ 1AM

While some of our friends were in Baguio, Corregidor and Singapore either sleeping or preparing for their respective races that day. A dozen running souls were at the KM0 in front of Dr Rizal’s monument getting ready to start the much anticipated repeat of the Luneta to Tagaytay LSD.

This LSD repeat was a test for me as I did not finish the distance on my first try.

KM0-KM8
1:07AM, after the pep talk and prayer led by Mar aka Pojie we started the run.

We ran at the right side of BayWalk up to the CCP where we decided to transfer to the left side of Roxas Blvd since it was safer and well lighted.

Upon reaching the corner of EDSA, the group again transferred to the right side of Roxas Blvd until we reached the Uniwide Coastal Mall footbridge.

More than an hour of running. We took our 1st break at 7-11 NAIA Road. After a few minutes, we continued our run now in Quirino Ave positioning at the left side of the road where it was safer.

KM8-KM16
Passed Paranaque River Bridge, St. Andrew’s School, St. Paul’s College and San Dionisio Chruch then making a quick pit stop at 7-11 Kabihasnan. After which we ran again in Quirino Ave.

Passed St Joseph Parish (Bamboo Organ Church) in Las-Pinas City then the boundary of Las-Pinas / Cavite. Took a break at Jolibee Zapote Kabila branch where Pojie and I ate breakfast.

No sign of ITB yet. So far, so good.

KM16-KM31
After a 10min break we continued our run. I was surprised to see that the Bacoor to Imus road was well lighted and was freshly asphalted. Thumbs-up to the Senator from Cavite and DPWH for the good work. Last time we ran here it was pitch dark and very unsafe. And blinkers from my fellow runners ahead of me gave me a head ache.

GAS STATION, BACOOR/IMUS AREA

el capitana: power nap

el capitana: power nap pa din!!!

We made two more stops before reaching KM31, WALTERMART DASMA.

WALTERMART DASMA

Paul, Angel, Eric and Raff stopped at this point. This is where my ITBS showed up the last time. And I was assessing myself if I should continue or make a u-turn at KM35 and run back home just to complete the 56K.

KM31-KM42
After passing the KM35 marker and ITBS nowhere in sight, I decided to move forward going to Tagaytay.

After Doc T and I bought noodles and pinipig ice cream at 7-11 Dasma we were greeted by the cool and fresh air of nearby Silang.

DOC T: are we there yet?!?
KM42-KM46
Along KM45 we were greeted by a familiar face.

Hardcore runner Jerry Karundeng saw us and gave me, Tere, Sam and Jun, Gatorade Tiger drinks. Jerry just came back from a mountain run in Mt. Batulao that morning and saw us runners invading his playground. Hehehe! Thanks Jerry!!!

KM46-48
KM48 was our last pit stop. I removed my Camelbak hydration and relied on a bottle of Gatorade. The buses there was a nightmare as they were really driving dangerously fast.

KM48-KM54
At this point I was like in cruise control. Speed walking more than running.

GAB & SAM

may gaaaaaadddddd.... ang laaaayyyooooo....

KM54-KM56
The last 2K of the run was the real killer for me. Good thing Gab was with me as we psyched and pushed each other to finish the last stretch. It felt like there were metal balls chained in my legs.

Mark's inspiration... next to Bea of course... =p

But when I saw the rest of the guys waiting for us, cheering at KM56, I know I have won this battle.

Feria Who???

ReWind

06.23.2009

around 10:00PM
-- I was told that there will be no classes tomorrow (06.24.2009) because of a typhoon. Signal #2 was raised all over the Metro.

06.24.2009

around 5:00AM
-- Was awaken by our dogs barking. 'Typhoon must have arrived early', I said to myself. Darn it... I need to get some more sleep. We have an LSD tonight...

around 6:30AM
-- That's weird... no rain. Hmnnn...

around 1:00PM
-- I texted mudra... "We have a run tonight". Mudra replied... "There's a typhoon. It will arrive tonight, 8pm.". I texted back... "You scheduled it?"

around 6:45PM
-- Grace told me that she won't be joining the LSD because the typhoon will arrive by 8pm. I guess, Grace and my wife has the same wavelength.

around 7:30PM
-- I was in MOA grounds, waiting for Chelly and Ellen.

around 7:31PM
-- Chelly texted, "we're here na sa parking". Wow! Cono! I said to myself...

around 7:45PM -- Pojie, Gab, Doc Roy, Doc Marvin, BongZ, BongYu, Carina, Cris, Wilnar, Mcoy, Ziggy arrived in MOA grounds (half of the C-loop). They came running starting from KM0. It was their first pit stop. Picture taking... courtesy of Doc Roy.

Doc Roy forgot to turn off his headlights...

walang himala!!!!

around 7:50PM -- emo moment for Ellen.

around 7:59PM -- we started running.

or walking... =)
is that you tron?

around 8:00PM -- It started to drizzle. On time!!!

around 8:05PM -- It stopped... "that's it?", I said to myself

around 8:10PM -- We tried doing the Indian Run courtesy of Cris (Infinity).

An indian run is when a team (soccer, football, baseball, etc.) jogs (in our case, run... ehurm) in a single file line around a playing field. It begins when the last person in line sprints to the front. When that person gets there, the next person at the end of the line sprints to the front of the line. This continues as the line jogs around the field. Very tiring. -- URBANDICTIONARY.COM

around 8:20PM -- Pit Stop (Shell Station, Macapagal Ave.). Picture taking... courtesy of Carina.

cam whores!!!

around 8:30PM -- Started running again going to Uniwide Coastal Mall.

aside from pictures of women, Doc Roy loves to stare at electric meters too...

around 8:40PM
-- Uniwide Coastal Mall area. Picture taking... courtesy of Carina.

Yes, we are...

around 9:10PM -- We're back in MOA grounds. Market/Dampa area. Stretching time, by Cris. Pictures, by Carina & Doc Roy.

it was pitch black in that area. Doc Roy sacrificed not joining the stretching routine just to light our path. Very thoughtful!

witnesses...
Doc, lo-batt na headlights? =)

around 9:20PM -- started running again. But I have to stop in MOA. Checking on my watch, I'll be home by 1AM if I ran back with them to KM0 and join them at Gab's YellowCab treat.

And this is what I missed... Gab's treat!!!

YellowCab closed their doors when the guys arrived because the guys were sweating excessively.
The guys took the scooters instead...

about 10:45pm -- i read a text by Grace... "Where's Feria?!?!? I should have joined the run...". I texted back... "Feria who???". Apparently, Feria was the name of the storm. Nyerks...
