Gone Na'vi
From the movie AVATAR, The Na'vi are a race of sentient extraterrestrial humanoids who inhabit the lush jungle moon of Pandora. Humans are known to refer to them as "Blues", "Savages" or "the locals".
About an hour ago I have no idea what a Na'vi is if it wasn't for Tim. Thanks bro!
But let's not talk about the movie... I haven't seen it yet.
Here's why the name Na'vi came up.
I bought the shoe... err, Na'vi yesterday. While lurking at takbo.ph shoutbox, I followed a conversation regarding a shoe store in Makati selling Nike Lunarglide+ for 3K+.
As I'm not a fan of overpriced shoes, I thought "wow, 40% off!!!". I searched for the shoe store's number and gave them a call. I inquired about the shoe and the sales lady told me that it's their last pair for men's. I asked about the size... lo and behold it's 10.5!!! woot!!! My size!!!
I used my afternoon break time to check out the shoe. Reached the store, immediately tried them on, paid for it, then zoom back to the office.
Haven't break in Na'vi yet. But checking on reviews by Vener, Sam and Natz, I know I made a steal. =D
Now, where can I get a compression tights that has the same colors...
Watch out for the G!!!

Celebrity Run?
21K runner 1: "What time ba ang start?"
21K runner 2: "Gun start is 5:00AM. But knowing the race director, it's going to start late."
R: "ehem..."
lady runner: "WORST RACE EVER!!!"
10K runner 2: "marshalls at the bottom of McKinley are just making kwento with themselves, you know!!!"
R: "errrrr..."
R: "I got a new PB for 10K. according to my Garmin, I finished in 54:44 for a 9.71Km route. Short, I know. But even if it was an exact 10K distance, I'd still get a new PB."
21K virgin runner: "walang certificate?"
R: "wala eh... meron ata birth certificate."

Traffic Sucks!!!
At exactly 12PM, I went out of the office and rode a jeepney going towards Glorietta. But as luck would have it, there was traffic on the entire 2.5km route. And I wasted 40mins of my lunch break in traffic!!! Grrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!
Alas, I wasn't able to buy a shoe. Instead I made a quick dash to the grocery and bought chocolates to calm me down.
Only 10mins before 1PM and I thought that if I again take a jeepney going back the office I might be charged with over-break.
My solution... Walk and take the short cut back. Besides, I can include this as part of my heat training.
But how short was it? 1.3Kms and it only took me 13mins to walk back to the office.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!

Conquering KM0-KM56... at last...
While some of our friends were in Baguio, Corregidor and Singapore either sleeping or preparing for their respective races that day. A dozen running souls were at the KM0 in front of Dr Rizal’s monument getting ready to start the much anticipated repeat of the Luneta to Tagaytay LSD.
This LSD repeat was a test for me as I did not finish the distance on my first try.
KM0-KM8
1:07AM, after the pep talk and prayer led by Mar aka Pojie we started the run.
We ran at the right side of BayWalk up to the CCP where we decided to transfer to the left side of Roxas Blvd since it was safer and well lighted.
Upon reaching the corner of EDSA, the group again transferred to the right side of Roxas Blvd until we reached the Uniwide Coastal Mall footbridge.
More than an hour of running. We took our 1st break at 7-11 NAIA Road. After a few minutes, we continued our run now in Quirino Ave positioning at the left side of the road where it was safer.
KM8-KM16
Passed Paranaque River Bridge, St. Andrew’s School, St. Paul’s College and San Dionisio Chruch then making a quick pit stop at 7-11 Kabihasnan. After which we ran again in Quirino Ave.
Passed St Joseph Parish (Bamboo Organ Church) in Las-Pinas City then the boundary of Las-Pinas / Cavite. Took a break at Jolibee Zapote Kabila branch where Pojie and I ate breakfast.
No sign of ITB yet. So far, so good.
KM16-KM31
After a 10min break we continued our run. I was surprised to see that the Bacoor to Imus road was well lighted and was freshly asphalted. Thumbs-up to the Senator from Cavite and DPWH for the good work. Last time we ran here it was pitch dark and very unsafe. And blinkers from my fellow runners ahead of me gave me a head ache.
We made two more stops before reaching KM31, WALTERMART DASMA.
Paul, Angel, Eric and Raff stopped at this point. This is where my ITBS showed up the last time. And I was assessing myself if I should continue or make a u-turn at KM35 and run back home just to complete the 56K.
KM31-KM42
After passing the KM35 marker and ITBS nowhere in sight, I decided to move forward going to Tagaytay.
After Doc T and I bought noodles and pinipig ice cream at 7-11 Dasma we were greeted by the cool and fresh air of nearby Silang.
KM42-KM46
Along KM45 we were greeted by a familiar face.
Hardcore runner Jerry Karundeng saw us and gave me, Tere, Sam and Jun, Gatorade Tiger drinks. Jerry just came back from a mountain run in Mt. Batulao that morning and saw us runners invading his playground. Hehehe! Thanks Jerry!!!
KM46-48
KM48 was our last pit stop. I removed my Camelbak hydration and relied on a bottle of Gatorade. The buses there was a nightmare as they were really driving dangerously fast.
KM48-KM54
At this point I was like in cruise control. Speed walking more than running.
KM54-KM56
The last 2K of the run was the real killer for me. Good thing Gab was with me as we psyched and pushed each other to finish the last stretch. It felt like there were metal balls chained in my legs.
But when I saw the rest of the guys waiting for us, cheering at KM56, I know I have won this battle.
(glenn not in pic... tumakbo pabalik ng manila =p)
The route according from GF305
Till the next…
thanks Doc T for the pics
LSD QUOTE OF THE DAY:
Somewhere in KM48 from a Buko Vendor (BV)
BV: Nag-jo-jogging pa kayo? Tanghali na ah.
Gab: Oho... papunta kami Tagaytay... galing pa kami ng Luneta...
BV: (Imagine Tito, Vic & Joey) HAAAAAAA?!??

Your Garmin just died... Now what?!?
But for the MacGyver in us, there's always hope.
And I found a site on how to dismantle a Garmin. Eeekkk!!!
And hopefully help in knowing its components. =)
Here's the link:
Dismantle the Garmin Forerunner 205
I've never tried it as I have no Garmin to dismantle.
So... use at your own risk!!!
Do take note that the battery is soldered. If you plan to replace the battery, it needs to be de-soldered first.
Btw... MacGyver just called. He said, If you happen to own a messed up Garmin, give him a holler. I think he has some hope for you.
Laters!!!

Targeting 1000Kms for 2009
See the ticker above? I only need 218.2Kms to reach 1000Km for 2009.
If only I logged all the runs that I did, I know I have reached 1000Kms already.

I plan to accomplish my 1000K on Sir Jovie's RIZAL DAY RUN on Dec 30.
I'm doing this post to remind me of the distances I have to run and days when I will run.

Running Thoughts To Ponder: TRAFFIC
But have you ever wondered how road races affect many non-runners lives?
I got a glimpse of that reality when I took part Takbo.Ph's / Reinier Pacific support group for the MILO National Finals.
The group was stationed near the Gil Puyat Ave.(Buendia) / Pasong Tamo crossing. I was trying to check where I can be of help to the support group. And since there was a lot of us who volunteered that day, Que and I tried to control the support group because some of us were blocking the race path already.
After that, I glanced at the intersection and saw that there was only 1 Police and 1 MILO personnel controlling the traffic. Where were the other MILO peeps in the area? Uhmnnn... nevermind...
So, I tried to help.
That's when I realized that races are not only a hazard to the runners but also a nuisance to the non-running public, especially those who work even on Sundays.
Even the recent QCIM was a traffic nightmare. A co-employee even got her very first late during this race. She has to walk from INC Commonwealth to TriNoma. Talk about bummer.
Why is it a hazard to the runners?
If vehicular traffic is not properly controlled, this could cause injuries to the runners as they may get bumped by vehicles.
I was a volunteer during the MILO National Finals, but I almost got bumped by a jeepney when I tried to block its path to have a pack of runners pass through that intersection.
Why is it a nuisance?
It causes traffic problems. It affects all non-running peoples time. It affects businesses.
Imagine... being late for work or an important appointment because a race is being held?
Can this be controlled?
Of course this can be controlled. Organizer should post an advisory about the race at least 7 days before race day. Post traffic advisory daily for 7 days especially on the race route itself. Post traffic advisory for 7 days on newspapers and tabloids. Especially tabloids... as these are being read more by drivers. Put the advisory on the front page or back page, not on some page number, column number and row number. Put it where it can be seen! Easier said than done? Yes, I know. But the organizer should step up and do something about it.
Now, this coming 11.08.2009. It's Philippine International Marathon time. And based on the 42K race route detail, it's going to pass a lot of bridges and major roads. Hopefully, traffic will be controlled.
I don't know if traffic advisory was released... I haven't seen any.

Running Sick?
No, I'm not making up an excuse. I'm just listening to my body... and my wife...
Saturday, October 17
I was already feeling that I might have a cold. Being a hard-head, I told myself. "Kung ano man sakit ka, tanggal ka pag tinakbo kita bukas". As that is what I usually do.
I slept early... around 7pm, only to be awaken at 9pm by voices of Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant in Notting Hill. After that, lutang na ako. I wasn't able to sleep straight. And it didn't help that I had an LSS of "When you say nothing at all"...
Sunday, October 18 @ 2AM
As I have prepared all the things I need the day before. I just took a quick shower, dressed up then headed to our meeting place.
I met Gab in Paranaque, then we fetched Cindy from her apartment in Makati. And before 4am we were already waiting for our gun start in front of QC City Hall.
I positioned myself with the 2:45 pacers Neil & Carina. As I only intend to finish the race and if an improved PR comes then good.
When the race started, I felt strong that I was able to surge ahead from the 2:45 pacers. I was running on my comfortable pace.
Up until the turn-around point of the 21k runners. My energy suddenly went down. It didn't help that my ITB showed up. So I walked-jogged-ran-walk the whole stretch of Commonwealth going back to the QC Circle.
Reaching the QC Circle, I thought that I was near the finish line. Only to be reminded that there's the stretch of North Edsa to conquer too.
After finishing the race, I was already hobbling. The pain from the ITB is far more greater than the pain from my throat.
When I reached home, my wife was already preparing lunch. Strange, but I wasn't really hungry. I knew I need to eat something. I just felt weak.
Then my wife told me, "bakit parang ayaw mo ng pagkain mo? umiiling ka pa?".
Actually I liked the food, and I wasn't shaking my head. She just saw me wincing because my throat hurts whenever I swallow.
Then my wife told me, "subukan mo pa tumakbo sa isang linggo ha?"
I told her... "I will not run next sunday"...
Then I told myself... "Saturday naman yun SIM eh.."
Wehehehehehe.... Naahhh... won't happen. I'll skip the SIM too. =(
My next race will be the PIM. Hopefully run the 42K. If not, then I'll just join the relay for Team Logan.
Will I ever try to run sick again? Probably... If the pain is from the neck up, kaya pa siguro. But if the pain is from the neck down... that's a different story.

Next is the MILO National Finals on 10/11. I'll be volunteering this time. Good luck to all runners!
Then there's Quezon City International Marathon on 10/18. I'll be running 21K. Woot!
And the 2nd Subic International Marathon on 10/24 to 10/25. I'll be running 42K here. Ehurm...
